Adam Sommerville

I have 14 years’ recruitment experience gained within Banking/Financial Services with my main specialism being the Leasing/Asset Finance industry. In 2018, I joined an award-winning Recruitment Consultancy where I successfully built and developed this niche vertical for them.  I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and I learnt a lot but I’ve always had ambitions of setting up my own recruitment business and I am incredibly excited to be doing this now. 

I achieved a 2.1 degree in Business Management, which included modules in Accounting, Economics, Marketing and Business Law. This gave me a great foundation of knowledge for the Financial Services world. After graduation (and then intense working/saving), I went backpacking with friends around the world for 6 months. This was a once in a lifetime experience that gave me a real insight into diverse cultures – something that has resonated with me as we help to build an Inclusive workplace for our clients and ourselves. 

I have always worked with honesty and integrity with a transparent approach to recruitment, which I believe is a key reason why I have built such an established network of Clients and Candidates. This philosophy is also shared by the Consultants at James George Recruitment as we look to work in partnership with you for a number of years.  

The name James George Recruitment has a special meaning for me as it’s named after my two young sons. They will always be the key motivation for me to work as hard as I do and to ensure that the business is a real success!

I decided to enter the world of recruitment in 2019 and haven’t looked back! Having begun my Recruitment career as a Junior Consultant at an agency and then progressing to a Managerial “in-house” position afterwards, I have had the opportunity to learn about recruitment from both sides of the fence.  

I possess recruitment experience gained within the Asset Finance industry but I am also a CIMA qualified Accountant, so I am very well placed to work on vacancies within our Finance & Accounting division too. I am originally from Switzerland but spent several years living in Portugal before permanently relocating to the UK 7 years ago. 

I am therefore fluent in 3 languages (English, French and Portuguese), which will prove very useful as we grow and enter International markets! 

I currently work as a Talent Acquisition Partner at James George Recruitment so I am in constant contact not only with candidates but also with a range of clients across the UK. What I appreciate most about James George Recruitment is that it gives me the opportunity to be part of a multicultural environment, with outstanding colleagues. I feel highly valued as an employee and we are positively impacting people every day.

Having over 25 years’ experience in recruitment, leading teams of recruiters, I am delighted that the opportunity to join James George Recruitment, has taken me full circle. I have spent many years developing successful teams in Recruitment organisations, and it is a skill that I will always enjoy imparting on candidates and clients in the future.

Having introduced LEAN process management projects for the world’s largest Recruitment Group, I understand what makes organisation work properly. A huge part of this efficiency is the ability to benchmark a job role and understanding who to hire to maximise the effectiveness of each role.

Holding operational management roles in recruitment, has given me the opportunity to work across a multitude of sectors, which always adds value as a consultant in the Business Support arena. My adaptability, knowledge and experience, ensures all of my candidates and clients receive the same service whether I am working with an experienced industry specific MD or a school leaver. I am delighted to have joined a consultative team of motivated Individuals who recognise that recruitment is a partnership between a consultant, a candidate and a company.

While I am certainly the newest to recruiting amongst the team, I bring some strong experiences and recruiting education to the table for both clients and candidates.

I previously started my own writing business, creating content for recruiting firms across the UK, Europe, and the United States. I spent years providing the advice and knowledge for various audiences – from those actively seeking new opportunities or career changes, to employers responding to increasing skills shortages for their workforce.

Meticulous industry research allowed me to provide the resources, statistics, and crucial advice needed for various sectors, including finance, construction, property, education, healthcare, hospitality, and many more – from entry-level, to senior executive search.

Despite my small business’s self-starting success, I longed to be on the other side of the keyboard, amongst the action, meeting new people, and becoming a go-to individual that joins skills to opportunities. I took the career change I needed to pursue my ambitions and, as they say, the rest is history.

As an Associate Consultant for James George Recruitment, I feel highly supported and valued – and this is mirrored in the care and attention given to all the relationships built with clients and candidates. With the core strength of industry knowledge within the team laced with the personal attention James George Recruitment gives to every client, candidate, and recruiter, I couldn’t be more excited for the future.

My very first introduction to a career in recruitment was an incredibly positive one. We all strive to discover a career that we can truly be passionate about, and I quickly discovered that, for me, recruitment held all the elements to achieve this. My love of interacting with people from a variety of backgrounds, countries, and stages in their career, aligned with a strong and specialised Financial Services industry.

I completed my master’s in International Politics – an accomplishment nourished with my love of research, of reading between the lines, and studying layers of information from multiple sources below the surface.

I discovered I had rich empathy for different groups, and that taking a non-biased approach is so often the solution to conflict of interest or simply misinterpretation. This engrained way of thinking has become my greatest asset in my recruiting career – to go between the lines, understand both parties’ needs, and find the solution.

On joining James George Recruitment, I received outstanding levels of support and encouragement from the team – and seeing their enthusiasm for their clients, candidates, and career opportunities has further fuelled my ambitions and motivations to provide an exceptional standard of recruiting.
